Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroën negotiate a partnership to manufacture compact cars.
In 2002, two large multinationals, PSA Peugeot Citroën and Toyota Motor Corporation, forged a joint venture – TPCA, Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile Czech, s.r.o. In the same year, the two partners laid the cornerstone of a shared manufacturing plant in Kolín-Ovčáry. On February 28, 2005, the facility began manufacturing compact city cars, dubbed the “Kolín Triplets” – the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107, and Citroën C1.
The investment into the facility amounted to over 25 billion crowns and created thousands of jobs in the Kolín region. Since the launch of production in 2005, close to four million cars have rolled off the line and into the hands of satisfied customers in Europe and beyond.
